Cottage Grove Church is a church in Des Moines, IA dedicated to proclaiming and displaying the reconciling work of Christ. As a member of the church, I was excited and thankful for the opportunity to use my passion and skills for Webflow in combination with my love for Christ and advancing his Kingdom!
To create a flexible, scalable and engaging online presence for my local church that would be intuitive for them to manage, and become the sole source of information that our congregation and community could rely on for information about the Church.
From initial discovery through launch and optimization I lead this process from end-to-end through the use of surveys, initial concepts, defining content architecture, creating a full wireframe, final design and development, as well as on-site surveying and analytics.
I worked closely with the Communications Director at CGC to research, test and define the entire project from the perspective of our primary audiences and relevant content. We started by surveying a sizable population of current and potential church members, refining the results and then creating a content architecture based on our findings and a collection of inspiration. From their I created a full site wireframe within Axure RP at what I would refer to as 'mid-fidelity' in order to test and iterate within a simplified UI that still resembles the general layout and functionality intentions for the final site.
From both importing hundreds of previous sermons, to setting up new ways for the CGC staff to easily add News, Events, Blog Posts, etc. the Webflow CMS was utilized in multiple ways to ensure communication was easy and consistent.
As a young church that is hungry to grow our communities love for Christ and desire for authentic, biblical justice, we also wanted to create a design that was both modern and approachable, while being unique from the typical church website.
Especially in the current state of our unpredictable world, it was essential we had a platform that was quick and easy to adjust and move in different directions. Our ability to do this was very apparent as COVID-19 shook the way we worship as a church, but we were easily able to update the site in a couple of days to support a fully virtual livestream approach to worship and events.
From content, to layouts and animation, we were intentional about creating memorable moments throughout the CGC website. One way we did this was by creating a page that creates an animated, scrolling overview of who Jesus is and, while you won't find this page linked in the main nav, it is linked from every location around the site where we mention God or Jesus.
